Poisonous Spiders

Poisonous spiders and their different species

Spiders, we find them everywhere in every possible corner which is untouched. Have we ever realized are these all spiders the same? Yes, they do all look the same but, there are 38000 species of spiders spread across over more than 100 families. They are categorized in 2 different types like most of them are harmless, but at the same time there are certain amounts which are poisonous.

These poisonous spiders on biting causes symptoms like nausea, itching, stinging pain, redness swelling and if increased at a certain level, they may also cause death. Some of them also damage our nervous system. We normally take it very lightly of the presence of even 1 spider in our house. But, we have never known whether it is the normal or the poisonous one as it is difficult to distinguish between the both.

Spiders are arachnids and not insects. They have fangs with which they inject venom when they bite their victim. The most commonly known poisonous spider is the Black Widow and they are the spiders that account for the most poisonous spider bites in the United States and Canada. The female of the variety is the poisonous one. They rarely attack people but bite only when they are disturbed and feel threatened. They are found in the high corners of the walls, clothing, unused items and shoes. Some of them are too small to inject their venom into the skin and even those that can, may not have venom strong enough to cause you any damage. While experts are divided on the need to capture a spider that has bitten you, the chances on your being bitten again make it a hazardous task.

Some of the known Poisonous spiders are Black Widow spider, Red back spider, Brown Recluse spider, Brazilian Wandering spider and Australian Funnel-web spider.

The Black Widow spider has deprived its name from the belief that the female eats the male after mating. The female have a black shiny body with orange spots on the abdomen. The male in contrast is smaller and not poisonous. The Black Widow spider bite can cause serious symptoms in adults and can be fatal for children and elderly.

The Red back spider which is known as the Australian cousin of the Black widow spider is very poisonous. They are also known as Jockey spider or Kapara spider. The bite of these spiders causes Latrodectism. The victim experiences hammering pain, headache, profuse sweating and burning sensation. There are also some cases where the victim may have a respiratory problem and they might get into coma.

The next species is Brown Recluse spider, who is found in the mid-western region of United States and the Gulf of Mexico. They are unique type as they are gifted with 3 eyes and resemble to of a violin. Thus, they are also known as a fiddle-back spider.

The Brazilian Wandering spider has spun its way up to the Guinness Book of World Records in 2007 for causing the highest number of death of human with its venomous bite. It gets its name because during the night it wanders around in the jungle and during the day it hides inside termite mounds, under logs and in Banana plants. It is also called the Banana spider. They are very aggressive and are least hesitant to bite humans even in the absence of a threat. Its fatal venom contains PhTx3 neurotoxin which leads to difficulty in respiration, affects muscle control and also causes paralysis or asphyxiation.

There are many other such spiders with different unique characteristics. The best way of injecting these medicines is through insulin needles and making sure that all the affected area of the bite from the poisonous spider is treated. Antibiotics are also recommended if the spider bite causes lesion and an open wound. Usually there is no need to worry about these spiders, but just to be careful and take precautions while dusting them off.
